The nearest thing
Umbria has to beach resorts surround this lake. Towns such as Passignano and Castiglione del Lago are the most appealing with boat rides out to the islands of Maggiore and Polvese, a pleasant diversion.
On Isola Maggiore the old ruined castle and church is a must and there is usually an an old lady sitting at the door who will show you around as a sort of unofficial tour guide for a small tip.
Between San Feliciano and San Savino is the Oasi natural reserve where you can learn about, and see, the wildlife and bird life of Trasimeno, and at San Feliciano there is a museum dedicated to the history and traditions of life around the lake.
